From 600 BCE to 300 CE, Epidauros served as a healing sanctuary. Pilgrims from across the Mediterranean came seeking health, reporting symptoms and dreams to priests of Asklepios who responded with utmost confidentiality. In the abaton's womblike space, seekers awaited healing dreams where Asklepios, appearing as various forms like a god or animal, would provide cures or guidance through divine epiphanies.

Healing at Epidauros was known as dream incubation, like Native American vision quests. People seeking remedies for severe ailments engaged in purification processes before entering the abaton, a secluded sleeping chamber.

Dreams historically played a vital role in exploring life's mysteries, serving as significant events that guided daily actions. Healing rituals involved preparing for dream visits from Asklepios, merging physical and spiritual medicine—a precursor to modern practices.

Today, this tradition persists. Modern medicine and psychology can benefit by integrating ancient dream healing techniques. The connection between ancient tragedies and healing at Epidauros lies in catharsis, an essential emotional and psychological purging process crucial for deep psychotherapy.

Join Stacey Gibbons as she weaves yoga nidra and the magic of the shamanic journey with the power of the abaton,  the dream chamber, to invoke deep healing on all levels of being.
